We sit down with the wonderful Carlene and Michael from Cedar + Suede and talk about their AMAZING home renovation, their life after the block, reno tips from Carlene, their vintage caravan transformation and future goals!
We asked Carlene what life was like after the whirlwind Block reno and what began for them after the show finished…
“Our life was turned on its head, Michael was already a carpenter and finished getting his builders licence after the show but launching Ceder + Suede and working for ourselves was a totally different ball game”
Carlene and Michael say they had to learn how to run a business and provide a service with a public profile.
“We’ve been doing a lot of TV work and video production in the past 4 years which has been really opening and lots of fun”…
Michael has video editing experience so he is able to put that into use in what they do now whilst Carlene is able to put her writing skills to use..
“Its like the stars aligned”
Their recent reno is what caught my eye, completely gave me Goosebumps and I couldn’t wait to hear all about it!
“Its so hard to define our style because I pull what I love from different style, Its eclectic and I love the contrast of modern and classic, new and old. Its warm and homely and its finished with longevity literally and aesthetically”
Anyone looking for great reno tips, Carlene has some really good advise and tips on how to jump in and have a successful renovation ..
- Spend more time on the design phase before you start so you arent making rash decisions on the go but do be opening to changing them up when necessary.
- Dont get stuck on trying to roll out only one style of home, combine what you love so you have a house you love.
- Do your research, lots of it! There is no excuse with all the design imagery at our fingertips.
- Get multiple quotes, they can vary considerably.
With 2018 around the corner, Michael & Carlene are jam packed and you’ll be seeing loads more from them. The plan on renovating more caravans next year… Check this out!!
Michael really enjoys the process and we found there is a demand for super cute, fully renovated vintage caravans like the one we created because there is nothing else like it out there..
They’re in the process of filming more renovation and lifestyle series and continue to grow with Cedar and Suede with their property styling projects.
